...I hope one of the differences/fixes is that it remembers your settings and distance traveled after it falls asleep / remote goes idle. I'm still awaiting my board, who knows if I'm getting the old or new remote, but what I can say is that behavior would get old and annoying after a while.

It only forgets your settings if you run the board completely dead. Distance is reset if you switch off the board or allow it to power off. You can switch remote off when board is on and it remembers your distance.

Ok, thanks. What if the remote goes dead, will it still remember the settings? Also its not good on the battery to run them dead all the time, such as for the Lithium Ion. If you can keep some charge in there before it cuts out that's the best. There's typically a BMS that manages and cuts power out when it goes critical.

Yep from what I can figure out the board seems to remember not the remote. Def agree best not to run the board completly empltyd all the time.

Good vid and well explained. Seems to me like it could do with a UI upgrade too where the 'ECO' sign in the top left turns to 'REV', instead of having it as a secondary label. Kind of gives mixed signals that way.

You could easily glance at the top left to see what mode you're in, think you're in a forward gear not seeing the 'Rev' and then gun it (even if it is only in eco mode)

So I have had a little chat to Evolve about the new remotes, which allow you to change speed up and down, turns out the only difference is software, but unfortunately they are not planning to create an upgrade pathway for the old remotes :( I wonder is they cant or just don't want to.
This video which was shared on reddit shows the new remote

I chatted to Jeff and unfortunately it is not possible to upgrade the old remote. Sure there is a technical reason otherwise they would if they could. Maybe the remote is locked down tight for security reasons to stop anyone being able to tamper or not re-writable can only be written to once or sumthink.

Only other thing I found is if you switch the remote back off and on it will revert to Eco mode rather than the mode you was just in.
Just getting to work this morning and was getting low on juice (less 20%) and the remote seemed to switch to Eco mode as well automatically, will check more on this and see if its the case pretty sure I didnt hit the down button.

So I just received my new Bamboo GT and it has the old remote (already launched myself of the board by accidently pressing the rev button). Would I be able to claim to receive the updated remote as of the release date or otherwise get the new one with a huge discount to allow me to use my current one as a spare?

Probably best to email or phone your distributor directly with that question :)

I ended up sticking a small square of velcro over the eject button! You can still press it but you have to try!

I have raised this request with Evolve and the distributor, let's see what they give us as a response. Will put some velcro on the button indeed!

I imagine that gives a nice tactile feedback too, so it's pretty obvious what button your thumb is over

  17. I placed an order for a Carbon GT that is going to be delivered by december in the USA, will it come with the newest version of the remote?

I would expect so - mine shipped in the early Nov batch and it came with one - and I think all the service replacement remotes are the new style too.

Nice. I ordered a Carbon GT on the last pre order due to arrive here in December as well. I find it strange that they don't have a way for users to upgrade firmware via usb. This needs to be changed as it is a little ridiculous that you have to purchase a new remote just to get an updated firmware.

Yea the whole path down the road of electric skateboards has been pretty eye opening - way more performance than what I was expecting (and sheer fun in all honesty) but also less "out of the box" initial reliability and robustness from a high tech standpoint. I have $50 cheap ass drones that seem to have better signal separation and positive control - that's what I don't get we have had this in RC for years - yea the occasional problem but nothing like what I've seen on a whole bunch of forums including reddit from all the big names. What about just not using Bluetooth and going with one of the many RC radio standards from Spektrum or Futaba or Jeti etc. (like I said you still get issues with RC drones, planes, helis and all the rest) but the ranges are alot greater than "from hand to board".

I think Boosted does firmware upgrades from their app - not sure about the others and I don't think Evolve does. (Cool little remote though - great screen, neat hidden menus, no smartphone required) and lets face it the performance is stellar if not a bit unwieldy - still enjoying it - still want to ride it - still makes me smile, just stay ready to "bail out" while having a bunch of fun.
