Since I just received my R2 today, I wonder if I’m gonna have issues as well.

Hi. I've got the same issue just yesterday with my Evolve GTX and R2 remote. After sync problems, Evolve told me to reset the remote, that I did. After that, the remote was sync but was always stuck in SAFE mode and impossible to turn it off before the board to turn off. I noticed that the board symbol and the remote screen was shinning some times. Actually the problem was very simple and was my mistake ! When I reseted the remote (the screen with the min/max for acceleration and brake), I made an error by changing the brake pol from + to - so that the remote though I always were braking at the startup, that's why the remote was in SAFE mode for safety. Probably you guys have the same probleme. Verify your pol sign for accelerate and brake, depending your values for max and min (it has to be coheren). Hope it will help you.

Nope , they talk about that in the video. A few people have said that. Make sure poles + - .

Another thing. When Evolve France was trying to help me, the guy asked me to plug off the UART white cable located under the battery (by unscrew the 8 screws in the wood board, and not the black metal plate) whenthe battery is TURNED OFF and then to plug on again and then to start the board . Maybe it will help you...

Hey everyone. New to the forums. I just received my R2 yesterday, and had the exact same issues. I watched the YouTube video to re calibrate the accelerator and brake levers, and noticed my POL values were backwards. Had Accelerate as + and Brake as -, and they were this way out of the box. Once I followed the video, and changed the POL values everything seems great now. Not sure why it shipped that way though.

Be careful with the charge port, they push in.

Why not? I like the R2, if something happens they send you a new one. No worries

  9. So true I got my replacement literally 4 days from the day I emailed them about the issue.

The battery life indicator is what I don’t like. I mean, I haven’t really tried and probably something to get used too.
And to sync/pair with the board seems like too many steps ;p

Thought I’d post my findings too, since I got the same problems with my R2 after the firmware update and larger battery upgrade. When I got it back I immediately did a recalibrate, but didn’t allow for dead space in the trigger travel, and the polling were both set to “-” (minus).

After reading this thread and recalibrating again, this time with about 1mm dead space either end of the trigger travel, the accel polling set to “-” and the brake polling set to “+”, I have no problem pairing or switching modes. So, there may be some user error in some cases.

I'm having trouble settings Min Max values that aren't unbelievably twitchy. I'm more scared to brake than accelerate. The board threw me first time I tried braking as the shipping settings were nice and smooth and I didn't expect the kick. Adjusting the Min Max values fixed a problem I had where accelerator was being clamped every time I braked. I'm not super happy that now I can't get a nice smooth trigger response though.

A tour bus driver stopped me when I was testing new remote settings in a car park and asked if he could inspect the board as he wanted to buy one (he made a little phone video in which he narrated the features so he could check later online). I showed him my cut finger from when the braking threw me, and he did a double take (but it was just a scratch from some grit ... I bounced). I said, just wear helmet, it's ok.

    Update:
These values work nice for me:
    -
    2696
1449 (can go lower when fully pressed but whatever)
    +
    1727
    2588
(previously twitchy braking now seems gradual, which I prefer -- likely your preferred values will differ)

My Throttle is at 11 but board is not connected - not sure what this means.
Idle Acc Trigger value floats around 2739 (notice it is outside the acceleration range).
Idle Brake Trigger value floats around 1322 (well outside braking range)

Should there be dead space only at the start of travel, so that the distance between Min and Max are as wide as possible (in order that the range is broad = more smooth) ? If your brake goes from nothing to full too fast then you'll fly.

Was that process similar to what's in this video?

It was stuck in safe mode?

When I received my board it was working only in safe and GT modes and deadman switch was off. After enabling Deadman switch all gears are working fine.

Hey thank you so much, ive got a new R2 remote Nov 2019, it did work and id gone into settings to check all is set correctly for me, i mush of altered the Polatity of my Brake from pos to Neg, this stopped the trigger working at all, and i was stuck in safe mode, and couldnt get out, one i followed this post and sussed out id actually altered the brke Pol, i set it to Plus and its all fine. I was actually sure the remote was faulty.

2 things on my new R2 remote, it now has a setting for max speed, and if the board is swithced on you cant turn the remote off by the power button alown, youve got to fully push the brake trigger to max, then hit the power button and it goes off, or turn the board off and then the controller will also turn off now. Firmwar is v2

Thnks for posting your findings as it fixed my issues
