Awesome RejectBabylon. Has anyone contacted Evolve on old remote upgrade within warranty and outside of warranty? Are there any cost? Wonder if each region will have the same policy. US especially.

It would be great if they updated the firmware it to also give us the choice to remove the Reverse option too, cant even see why the board has it or needs it.

Option to turn it off would be nice. Lots of people do use it and it does have it's place. Originally it was a toggle button, to get in and out of reverse, which was quite dangerous for the casual rider if you tapped it accidentally.

They update the firmware to make it safer though, hence the geared up - down version using the left and right buttons. It's much more difficult to accidentally end up in reverse now.

Why would you use it ??, surely you have stopped before you engage it, wouldn't you just turn your board around,

If you can flick into reverse to back out of a tight spot, then pop it back into drive then there's no need to get off the board.

Personally, most of the time I do just get off an realign the board, but plenty of people are pretty smooth switching between forward and reverse.

The other use case is sliding. Certainly the minority of users are doing this, but for those wishing to push the envelope then having reverse allows them to pull of some great sliding moves and follow through in reverse after doing a 180.

    Hi
How did you get to send just your remote back due to dropout issues? Mines been dropping out since day 1, sometimes as often as every 5 seconds, and after numerous discussions via email and phone calls (without much useful advice I must say) the best offer I get is "put the whole board and everything back in the box and ship it all back to us"
I would have thought it easier for both Evolve and the customer to try the 'little' things first and sending the whole th8ng back would be a last resort.
I am thinking that Evolve could really do with some sort of remote diagnostic app.

Any ideas on how I can convince them to just try/test the remote first?
    thx

    Roger,

Hmmmm. Strange. Usually they want to try and avoid boards being sent back at all costs. Boards being sent back means work for them, which would be the "if all else fails option". The fact that they're not going through the little things with you might mean one of two things.

    1. Your issue is particularly bad, and they know it's not a remote issue by the severity of the symptoms you're describing. They know it's a motor controller/ESC issue and want to get right on it.

    2. Maybe they're starting to recognise that these issues being experienced globally, is more often than not, nothing to do with the remotes. Maybe they're changing their strategy and and are just requesting boards back straight away rather than f-ing around and wasting time with the "remote dance".

I say do it, Roger. You'll be without your board 2 weeks max, probably less being in Canberra. At the end of it all you'll know what was wrong with your board and it will likely be repaired and all good. They'll also send your board back with a new remote with the upgraded firmware (ECO drop at 10% instead of 30%).

Paying for shipping is a pain in the arse, but unfortunately that's how the consumer law reads (which is a bit weird). But they'll pay to have it shipped back to you when it's all fixed up.

If symptoms persist after you've given them a chance to repair it, I'd brush up on Australian Consumer Law related to a 'major problem' making the product 'unsafe' ;)

I think you sent this to the wrong person, I have no idea what you're talking about.

Yeah, sorry about that Roger. I tagged the wrong Roger by accident when I posted. I tried to edit you out of it but it didn't work. The ship had sailed at that point.

Same with mine, doesn't really bother me, it's rare that I dont notice a "eco kick" about to happen.

Yep, good to see that they are listening to customers, but still a bandaid fix. The RF chips they use cost around .50c and should be updated for such a vital part of the system in regards to reliability and safety. no one likes to complain about non existent issues, but those who have yet to experience such issues do not understand how scary they can be, your board sending a delayed command can land you o your ass, experienced rider or not, it makes no difference ;)
