Its only been taken away to hide the shocking sag of the original battery. All this can cause distraction stuff is BS.

voltage sag for the boards isn't what id call shocking, not for the average rider in normal street conditions.
im about 100kg which is the recomended rider limit and in normal street conditions i can ride it 7km home from work in 36°c with 25kph headwinds and several reasonable climbs, i do not need to charge the board at work it makes the round trip easy and i never get limited by heat or battery sag.
maybe complaints about sag come from either hardcore riders who push its limits or the uneducated who can't read real time battery information and translate it in their tiny minds to actual board output.

i don't have complaints with the OEM battery i just want the information displayed so i can gauge the load im putting on the system.

My R-2 arrived today and the battery percentage was the first thing I wanted changed but was disappointed when I read this thread :( I don't trust a small meter to tell me if I can make it home or not. Voltage sag is a issue yes, but I could always gauge my journeys even with it. I'm sure we've all gotten used to it. I hope they release a firmware update to unlock the option. Aside from that, the remote feels great. I'll test it properly later.

add ya voice to the noise and send them a customer feedback email.

been able to read battery sag and recovery rate after an exertion is exactly like a cyclist or runner having a heart rate monitor isnt it.

its how you know and its how you plan how much to use and when to use it.

Yeah I had that in mind. It's a matter of trust and accuracy, exactly. I'm sure the Evolve guys will look into it.

I got my R-2 remote yesterday, but have not had a chance to use it with the Carbon GT yet due to the weather. It does feel really good in the hand and I feel sure it will not take long to adjust to the Two triggers. I have paired it and set it to the New wheel size option of 107mm, so that is very much welcome. Going back to a very strongly felt subject of this thread/discussion though, I could not help noticing that even in the supplied Instruction Manual Evolve still clearly states that the option to change between % & skateboard icon is available!!! (So obviously it was meant to be in the preferences up until a very late stage) see the attached jpg.

As you guys will be aware, after you get your order from Evolve it is followed up by a request for us to review our purchase & give a Star rating. Copied in below is the review I have just sent back to Evolve NZ:

"I would have instantly given the R-2 5 stars if the original firmware had not been changed to omit the battery % option in the preference menu. The real time information that the % readout I'm so used to gives, was for me, invaluable! I previously contacted HQ to ask the reason behind it's removal, but the answer given did not sit right with me. Seeing as it was already decided to be included in the preferences (as can be backed up by the fact the instruction manual still clearly describes how to select the % option) I am at a loss as to why it could not remain as an option, for us as the end user to change from the default bar meter if that was our preferred readout. Choice is always a good thing, as evidenced by the fact that we now have a deadmans switch, but can switch it off if not required (which is what I have already done, not being one of the large number that have been demanding one be fitted.) But that's fine by me because there is the Choice to use the deadmans switch or change it in the preferences if so desired. The issue of clarity, for me does not hold water after seeing Evolve's own ambassadors demonstrating the screen when the % option was selected, it looked just fine to me and as already stated, it would be for me to Choose if it were made available again! From my own personal point of view and may I add from other longer term Evolve owners I have had contact with, I/we would be very happy to hear that the % option will be re-instated in a future firmware update. So to end this on a more positive note, I will say that in each and every other department the R-2 really is game changing. P.S. I do hope this actually reaches the powers that be over on the Gold Coast."

My review, as you can see in my post above, is also 4 stars and referencing our concerns about the removal of the % reading, but Evolve NZ HAVE posted mine on the website! Log on to the NZ website and it is the FOURTH review out of six.

Just had a new R2 delivered today, seems to be working ok ( and no there is no % display) but that doesn't bother me. What I can say is the R2 that came with my son's GTX didn't work, connection issues, gear change issues, no throttle response etc.

Our local dealer swapped it immediately, well done thesnowboardshop.co.uk and informed evolve UK. The battery drain on the R2 is a bigger pain for me, but all things I can live with and manage. I'm sure it's gonna get better, and personally I find the more I ride the better feel I get for how much battery I have left in the board and remote so just go and enjoy it and don't worry too much. Guys in regards to evolve trying to hide battery sag on the r2; for me the new battery bar still shows sag. For example when I go uphill it drops to 1/2 full fairly quickly, when I stop it rises back to 4/5. Yes it's no longer super accurate but I think if you back off before the bar goes below 1/3 which equates to 33% on the r1 remote (or approx 3.5v per cell), it'll avoid over-discharge anxiety.

Having the bar is nicer because it gives me info at a quick glance compared to reading two small digit numbers. Or maybe its cos I'm old and my eyes are bad :p
