Excellent write up, thanks for sharing. I have batteries on the way to upgrade my BGT to a 4S config. Do you happen to know what the 11 pin balance lead connector is? I was hoping to leave mine intact and maybe sell off the old battery. Also how is the balance lead connected? I assume 1 to the negative end and the rest across each parallel set.

Also what size nickel is that and where did you buy please? it looks nice and wide.

Can't wait to do the upgrade my GT does 9 miles if I am lucky. I also have some old cells to practice too. But I bought the arduino spot welder kit kit so I can set the pulse time. Arduino Spot Welder – Malectrics
    Cheers

Im not sure. I just replaced my old cells with new ones pretty much. I know the Evolve bms is made to talk to their esc. My pack was made with the bms built in. If your pack is that shot I’d just pull out what you need from the old pack for the new one. You just hook it up in the same way you remove it. I bought the nickel off eBay. .15 x 10mm. The practice cells will come in handy. I thought I heard the arduino welders can’t get a short enough pulse. I’m sure with some practice you can make it work. It took me awhile to work out the quarks with mine. Once it was dialed in it worked great. I will be buying an actual welder for my next build. Totally worth it.

I’m going to have to make a loop around the entire city to range test this bad boy! This was the 15mi loop.

Ok. So the board can outlast me. I’m exhausted. 30.4mi GT mode riding mostly conservative. A few punch outs every now and then just to see how it feels at different voltages.

WOW dude that is really impressive!! Not sure I'm ready to chop up my 4 month old GTX just yet, but the time may come. I'm definitely comfortable with mechanical and electrical projects, but no experience in BMS battery etc. It all looks a bit intimidating frankly!
BTW, is the magic in the fact these are new cells and you have more of them? Or is there something special about the actual cells you used, which makes the finished product so much better than stock?

Thanks! Higher quality cells and more of them. 15ah compared to 10ah.

I’m not sure. I know it has to be good. I sold my AT wheels to a friend or I could test it. I know some guys do a 10s5p build in their carbons. I imagine it would be similar range to what they are getting.

Hi looks like good work ,can I just ask ask as a little confused .You said you used to get 15miles from your original battery .Ive got a gtx street set up and get mid to high 20's and that's riding mostly in gt but sometimes fast mode .Bristol in the uk has a pretty hilly terrain but I don't suffer .If I do a 15 mile run which to be fare is about my norm I have loads of battery left .My board is pretty new though so maybe that's why it's still strong ?
    Cheers

Fozzy – I used to get in the mid 20s as well but I am down to around 12 to 14 miles in GT mode with the 97 street setup. I am awaiting the stock battery to be restocked and then I plan on upgrading the currently wearing out pack with better batteries. So I would say yes your newer battery pack is why you are getting that mileage and you too will eventually start to see a decrease. Give it a year and have a blast wearing it out ;-). Skate on!

Yep! I’m on 32t 97mm. I got about 20-22mi (180lbs with some hills) when it was new smashing it in GT mode. After 150 cycles or so I was riding as mellow as I could to stretch it to 15mi. I was tired of worrying about range and missed that new pack feel. That’s why I went with my build. I can get 30mi now riding hard in gt mode. So hopefully as the battery gets older I’ll still be happy with 20 or so miles. After that I’ll just build another new pack.

Deco-Stop - Would you be willing to share which make and model battery you used? Also did you go with unprotected? I am having a hard time finding a protected battery. I have a new stock battery coming so I plan on taking apart the older one once the new one is in place and doing the battery upgrade at a paced where I am not rushed. Thanks an advance.

I used the Samsung 30q’s using the evolve bms to manage the pack.

Would you detail the old vs new battery characteristics? Amps, volts, size, etc. Also why the size difference (the old one had 5 packs too) Thanks in advance.

    Old/new
    42v/42v (charged)
10a/15a higher discharge and higher quality
New pack is about 3-5” longer

Old pack had ten “packs” as you describe it in series. Each single pack was 10a.
I have 5 - 3a cells parallel in a pack making them 15a packs in my new build. Also 10 packs in series for 42v.
