I made a sketch of the double decker batteries, unfortunately only save about 2mm by 'nesting' them staggered (like a pyramid).
At 19mm width a cell, 38mm, 2mm saving, 36mm, possible wiring on top + heatshrink around 42mm from underside of board to inside of housing? Do you think foam is required? (but i'd probably look to use some on the outside of the heatshrink.
Seeing what you mean now, ~45 mm cavity depth.
My deck is concaved also so would add a few mm's to the concave to enclosure. Bugger, will look quite chunky.

This is what a 50mm deep enclosure looks like on my bamboo deck-approx 70mm ground clearance on AT wheel. IMG_2005.JPG View attachment 2653 IMG_2006.JPG
If you want 10S 6P only options are either go for longer board single stack or double stack with deeper enclosure!

This is crazy lol how much range do you get?

Looks very pro! :) I'm going to be top mounting my trucks (not drop through) to get more useable 'floor space' on the board. So that should win me deck thickness + truck thickness in height.. Hoping this offsets having a deeper enclosure.

    Road-tested? Terrible weather unfort!

    Nah -Just mounted it today
Still a bit of finishing off required.
Will take for a run tomorrow morning if weather OK
Have you decided on motor and VESC yet?
    Cheers

2 x 200kV 5065s, and Torqueboards VESCs I think are the winner. They're next week's purchases. Popped into jaycar for soldering bits and bobs to fix my old board today.

Thinking about the battery, wondering whether I would use 60 cells versus making single layer 40 cell pack. Might be able to fit it all in an evolve spares enclosure with extension. I don't think i'd be using this board with ATs . Weather looks like we might be in for a win around lunchtime.

    sounds great
what about BMS ,remote and cells?

The 100A bms from battery supports, remote: jury is still out. Seems the nanon remotes etc from torque boards look like the boosted remote with the 'thumb' wheel. I quite like evolve's remote but that's not feasible.

Haven't opened the can of worms that is battery cells yet, is the aim of the game to get the highest mAh and Associated A to suit the motors/bms?

How'd you get on today Roger? Manage to get out in the Sun? A few of us went to Pt Walter, Paul came along & had the motors you highlighted from AliEx, they looked quite good.

Did make me think though, I think he had the 5065 140KV.. and that board motored along at a good clip. Wondering whether i bother with the 200kV if all it really does it suck more power out of the battery if I'm happy to cruise at 25/30kph?.. What do you reckon?

Other side note... this BMS I'm looking at (36V 37V 42V 10S 100A 10x 3.6V Lithium ion LiPolymer Battery BMS [36V 10S 100A Lithium Battery BMS] - $73.00 : Lithium Rechargeable Batteries, Battery BMS, Pack Assembling) has quite a big form factor.. possibly another win to evolve there in managing to get quite a small one? Dimension: 200mm * 110mm * 20mm (L*W*T) - with Radiating Board

Might be something in it if I can get down to using the 60A BMS (Dimension: 112mm * 53mm) for the much smaller form factor / real estate inside the enclosure.

Andrew- Yeah took it for a spin about 40km in total and all good.

The 200 KV motor will only suck more battery power if demanded/requested otherwise same battery consumption as a 140KV motor for a given speed/torque demand.

If you are happy to drop speed to 25/30 km/hr then the 140KVs will do the job fine.

Suggest you still go for 100A BMS and 200KV motors - you can always tweek the board speed/torque with the gears later

With a 6P cell configuration - 100A peak is still achievable with 20A cells

Regarding under the deck - what is maximum length enclosure you could fit? ( mine is 610mm long for bamboo and it just fits the deck OK)

    Cheers

I'd like to go for the 200kV motors, but don't think i'll be able to find the room for 10cm x 20cm BMS.. annoying the 60A comes in 5cm x 10cm. I think I'll be using a housing similar if not the same as evolve's bamboo GT. The 20cm x 10cm would have to sit lengthways, eating up too much length. Might be a case of waiting for BMS tech to catch-up.

Sidenote: know of any 2nd hand evolve enclosures? lol

Would there be any logic in using the 200kV motors with the 60A BMS (limiting the Amps through the VESC possibly?), along the lines of not flogging the motors/only using them in third gear?

Not sure that the evolve enclosure will suit your plans-Its even too shallow for one row of cells unless you route out about 5mm from bottom of deck and then the width is a smigeon too narrow to fit the pack in so you need to hack the mounting sockets a bit ( as nick had to do)
It also has a large rectangular hole for the evolve esc heatsink that you will need to fill.

There are a multitude of enclosures around fairly cheap -about 30mm deep to suit one cell deep pack - but the lenght may restrict you to 10S 4P which probably wont give you your range target of 60km.

What 60A BMS are you thinking off -need to check that it has separate circuits for charging and discharging and preferably has an in-built switch to avoid cost and real estate in enclosure for seperate switch.

200kv motors will be fine with restricted current and should run cooler than the 140kv motors for same demand duty.

    Cheers

Hmm, I've seen a couple of evolve's with 18650 packs, but they do look a bit tight in there.

This is the only 60A BMS I've seen floating around 36V 37V 42V 10S 60A Lithium ion Li-ion Li-Po LiPo Polymer Battery BMS PCB System | eBay

Frustrating as I think 60A is the cut-off before I think they're on the much bigger board.

Looks like if I'm doing one layer of battery, 10S50P would be the aim, extending the evolve (or similar) length case.

Don't want to go down the path of making my own ABS enclosure just yet! Although I think the fibreglass/maple composite skate deck isn't too difficult.

I think we might get a bit of sunshine on Wednesday arvo.

Looks the goods, but not sure if it's legitimate? Nothing else for sale on that website, doesn't look like it's been around long? If so though, would be a ripping remote.

update: purchased motors over the weekend and everything else before that. Next up will be a decent order at torqueboards. Just checking to see if he still offers free postage for over $300

Hmm, definitely interested in a remote w/ feedback. Have placed the torqueboards order so will have to use that one for now.

ru.nkon is out of the MJ1's at the moment, but this cell is the front-runner so far: NKON | Samsung INR18650-35E 3450mAh - 10A - 18650 size - Rechargeable batteries

The 10s6p gets the tick of approval, just thinking of how I'm going to put it together / configure the nickel strips etc.. Fairly similar to this build but build the banks of cells as 3x2 Endless-sphere.com • View topic - Evolve Carbon AT with 50km+ range
