  1. Could be the only alternative for the moment. Abec11 97mm are out of stock. Been trying to order a set but 3 times the shop called me back to say the are out of stock. The can't even tell when they will be in stock again and apparently Abec can't/won't tell them when production will start up again?!

I've ran two sets of 90mm clones on my GT without issue. Yes, you need to pick up and modify a set of Evolve gear hubs but when you look at it, that gets added into the mix of one or two sets of overpriced ABEC 11 fly's. The Evolve gears are $30 / side including the bearing. So $60/pair + shipping.

Drive Gear- Abec 11 Flywheels and Evolve GT Wheels 32T

I've had chucks come off my 97mm authentic ABEC flywheels, my orange and red colored clones, none. I've ran over glass, had nails in these clones that I pulled out and no other damage. The cut came back together. If it was on the edge, no wheel can save you from that. So I'm not talking down the Flywheels but I don't think they're worth the $60+ price-tag, plus you need to add bearings and spacers.... So now you're at $70+ for a set of 4 wheels that are ready to bolt on.... Granted my goto bearing is an ABEC 9, I usually have one ABEC 5 bearing go out from these wheels, but its easily replaced and I don't have issues from the rest. So I run the lower ABEC bearings until they die. I don't spend time lubing my bearings, I just replace. They're cheap enough for the 9's that my time lubing them isn't worth it. I also have bought $50 bearings and found them just to blow out like the ABEC 5's did. Hence my rational for the clone wheels. But if you want to pay more, that's your freedom. I also have been running clone wheels on my commuter MetroBoard(s) [ two boards I use ], and again, no issue and I have many many more miles on them than on my GT and the clones on those boards. Again, never had chucks of those clones flying off or any hub issue.

Since I had to modify the gear of my Evolve hub, filing / dremaling down the hub surface, I found that the clone hubs when you look at them, actually have more meat in the hub or material than the ABEC 11 Flywheels / Evolve wheels which is quite interesting.

Again, its personal preference. But when I spend $25 per set of 4 wheels that include ABEC 5 bearings and spacers, its a no-brainier for me. The performance of the clones are very good too and have no complaints there. I also have 97mm clones, in black, but haven't put them on for that the 90mm are perfect for me on the GT. A little rougher ride than the 97's, but it keeps the board a bit lower, you can still roll over things well, and it looks fitting for the board. Note that the 83mm Evolve wheels are wider than any ABEC / Clone wheel, so it throws the look off a bit on the board.

I went to my purchase history and found the wheels. They're actually ABEC 7 bearings in this one. They are $19.99 for a set of 4 plus for me $6.99 shipping. So $27 with spacers bearings, wheels and shipping.

Yes. But its best if you can buy with confidence from other riders who've had good experience. You're correct that there can be some variance from vendor to vendor. I've went through 3 different clone vendors and they all have been good in terms of product durability. If you have good experience with a clone, post the link!

A couple of users on esk8 builders have said they've spoken to ABEC and they haven't begun a 2017 production run yet after selling out, should be available sometime in Q1, likely February.
