One motor working

  1. So after receiving my board only one of my motors worked then i called evolve support and they said they would call me back. Afterwards i tried it again and the two motors started working again but one of them was making a very strange noise. Yesterday i wanted to go for a ride and again only one motor was working and it has been like that since! Any ideas?

open the battery case and check carefully the wires that come from the motors into the green circuit board, could just be one of the plugs is loose fingers crossed.

I think the cable holders on BGT that attach to the truck mount nuts increase the distance the motor cables have to travel which means less slack in the wires. which can lead to pulling of the wires where they attach to motor controller. the hall wires slide inside the sheath. the shortest wire then takes all the pull and may pull away from the pin enough to mean that motor stops functioning.

check the wires on the HAL connections, i have seem many guys have faults with these, including myself, the wires are very very thin, like almost too thin i think, and any pressure on them seems to cause them to snap off. Sadly you have to replace the whole motor with wires if you get this happen, or send it to Evolve and they will do it for you. I would like to see them use better thicker wires for the HAL connection, out of warranty it costs you $189 AUD to get a new motor, and the super thin wires and poor crimping could make it happen again. I think I might try applying some tape to mine, maybe it will give it a little more strength.

you can see in my photo the broken wire, and most get the RED wire that falls out, if you zoom in you can see there is only about 3 thin strands to the wire itself, one of the thinnest wires on the whole setup. 20161014_131824.jpg

The red wire for some reason is shorter! why do you have to replace the whole motor?. Just solder on a longer bit of wire on to extend it and the re crimp into plug.

yes I may just do that next time, but hopefully some tape will prevent it from happening again, but if it does I will just be extending the wire and crimping it I guess, still not sure users should have to bother with this, there should be a revision in the design/material, a fair fe motor controllers and receivers have been replaced too, perhaps there will be a new gen down the track with these issues resolved.

the reason I chose to send it back and have them replace it is that I have not done this fix before, and while it is still under warranty they will do it, also didn't want to risk doing it and then something goes wrong down the track and they say warranty is void for tampering with it :)

hi guys thanks for the heads up called evolve support and they said it was or the motor or the motherboard i personnaly think it is something with the motherboard so they are going to send me a new one. But i totally agree with you guys that it would be much better if they used some bigger wires for it to be more resistant

I'm just having this issue for the second time and they are making me send the motor back by itself this time.
They sen;t you a new one first go? I'm having to send it back after they have already troubleshooted it once and got it wrong.
    -.-

Damn that sucks. What is your opinion of the service you have been given so far?

The service is great outside of when you need them to fix something. They haven't offered to pay for delivery once so far. No freebies for the inconvenience etc. I don't even remember a simple apology.

I'm also receiving two different opinions on the issue from evolve one from support@evolve and the other from ask@evolve Ontop of that it takes 24hours for each person to reply I sent my first message to them 6 days ago and it took 2 days to get my first response (1day was a weekend)

IF it was my business I'd have called to sort this out and offered to pay for everything.
