Add rubber seals to the remote enclosure, and around the screen.

Include some kind of tethered rubber seal for the USB charging port.

Come up with some magical way of sealing the trigger mechanism (not sure where to start on that one), or changing it to mechanism that can be better weatherproofed.

Yeah, there is a huge space for improvement in the way remote works in high humidity environment. I got R2 remote and it failed me during my ride due to foggy weather. It wasn't raining at all just humidity was very high due to a fog ... and so I got stuck in the middle of nowhere, my GTX was working fine, just remote lost connection. Quick dry using hair dryer after I got home fixed it but still I had to get back in order to do so.

I guess in Australia the weather is different in Europe it is often like that and simple coating of electronics inside the remote could do the trick.
