I just bought myself a used evolve bamboo gen 2. it's in a really good condition. Nice for cruising and carving, but i have a problem with connection. it disconnect now and then and the range is just so poor. if i raise my hand a little, the remote would disconnect. I tried to find a discussion about it but i couldn't seem to find any on the gen 2. practically a graveyard here.

So I brace myself and decided to open both the board and the remote to see how i can improve the signal.

I see the antenna on the board was placed under the board, soldered to an aluminium tape, thinking of moving it above the board but don't want to mod the board at this point. So i decided to look into the remote, here's what i found.

The antenna is soldered on the palm area soldered on a copper tape. I think this is the problem, the way i hold the remote cover the antenna area, thus reducing the signal and from time to time, the disconnection issue happens. To test my theory I tried covering the antenna with my hand and the remote become disconnected indeed. So hand position on the antenna does matter.

After testing, i decided to remove the antenna cable outside. I unsoldered the cable from the copper tape area, and make a hole on the side of the remote, and move the antenna cable outside to the front of the remote.

and while i'm at it i also paint the remote tan. Anyway, this way, whatever ways i hold the remote, my hand wont cover the antenna, and the connection between the board and the remote improves significantly. been testing the board all morning and no connection issue whatsoever. even if i raise my hand, the connection holds.

For whoever have the bamboo Gen 2, and want to try this, i hope it helps.
