Protective footwear?

So I took my first wipeout the other day. I was wearing a helmet, gloves & knee/elbow pads and my gear did a GREAT job. My board started wobbling at 20 mph & I took a hard fall onto the pavement but my equipment took (almost) all of the damage.

I got a small scrape/roadrash on my forearm but it looked worse than it felt & my only real injury was to my foot. I whacked in pretty good on the outside of my heel and my big toe (I never had a bruise on my toe or heel before but I promise you it IS possible). Feeling MUCH better 48 hours later but it got me thinking about protection for my feet.

So I'm thinking of getting some heavy-duty, steel toe workboots but that looks kinda goofy with shorts, so I came here to see what you guys wear to protect your feet. All advice/replies appreciated.

Thanks & have a great summer
