Remote Guard / Protector

  1. Hi All,

I made my own aluminium remote guard after seeing Nickleberry's 3D printed guard. I didn't have access to a printer, wanted to protect the LCD screen and (hopefully) something a bit stronger. I've made a couple of these now and thought I'd take some photos along the way.

    Required:
    - Tin snips,
    - Metal file,
    - Pencil & Ruler,
    - Evolve Remote,
    - Pliers,
    - Tube of Silicon / PVC pipe (anything round that you can bend aluminium around),
    - 25mm x 1.5mm aluminium strip or similar,

The picture are self-explanatory. Be careful to leave a bit of room at the 'bottom' so you can fit the remote in. When bending the top over make it 'tight' so the remote is secured. Drill a hole in the bottom for the wrist strap. I've used velcro or double sided tape to secure. When you're finished use the metal file to remove all sharp edges and burrs.

1 - Start at the bottom of the remote and work your way around, don't cover up the charge light.

    2. Make sure your bends with your pliers are square. I use a set square to mark r

    3. While I'm going along, I'll just fit it to the remote to suit. Remember to leave enough room in the 'bottom' to fit the remote in.

    4. Using my technical bending jig (a tub of silicone) to make the trigger guard.

    5. Check for fit, final bend over the top of the remote then trim above the button. Doesn't hurt here to make the guard protrude. If you drop the remote face first, the LCD screen should be protected.

    6. Use a metal file to get rid of the sharp edges or burrs.
    7. Drill your hole in the bottom to poke the wrist strap through. Sit the remote in, double sided tape of velcro to secure.

    Andrew,

How does it feel in your hands well riding? Protecting that trigger against accidental contact is super important in GT and Fast mode, great idea and thank you so much for sharing. I too don’t have access to a 3d printer but could make one of these in a couple of hours.

    Take Care, Gary

Feels fine, to be honest I don't really notice it at all. (but I've got a gen2 so there's no need to look at the remote)

The times when it's been the most handy, is when picking up the board or legging it over a railing while carrying the board, had a few times where the trigger would catch and the board take off. This acts a bit like a dead-man switch. Good luck & post your result! :)
