To update or not to update (my remote)?

?

Should I update my Bamboo GT remote

  1. Yes, the new up and down mode selection is cool

    32.0%
  2. No, with some remote issues it is not clear if this new version is ok

    44.0%
  3. Maybe, but I would rather wait until V3 comes out

I have my Bamboo GT a little while and it runs fine, no cut outs, no unexpected braking (besides the 2 times I messed up myself and accidentally pressed reverse), shifting modes works fine (sometimes it takes 1-2 seconds but I always go off throttle, switch, check display and gently try to see if all is ok).

The big question is if I should update my remote with all being fine. I hate the cycling bit to get to a higher or lower mode (I always switch to eco when I need to cross a street or when at a traffic light, etc.).

If you have a working perfect remote I would be tempted to keep it and simply buy another one (with current firmware) that way you have the best of both worlds and can always go back to your known-good-trustworthy remote if you have any issues with the new one

This weekend I paired a new-style (V2) remote to my Bamboo GT (V1 motor controller) & it worked great! I really like the downshift feature!! Plus, I alternate between my BGT & my CGT so I don't want to accidentally forget which remote I have & to use the "eject", I mean left button on my V1 remote - I made that mistake once & do not want to repeat it..

It is a software update which allows you to up and down the speed modes instead of having to go through a full cycle to for example shift back from fast to eco

Also the left / sync button on the V1 remote if I'm correct instantly dropped the board into reverse. The V2 with the left/sync downshift feature, in order to drop into reverse, you have to drop down from GT->FAST-->ECO->Slow->ECO REV.

I think it is just the remote now. If you talk to your distributor they can probably update your old remote.

If you order a new board now or a separate remote it should already have the new V2 software loaded. If you have an existing GT remote with the older software you can requet the distributor to update this. They will tell you how to do this an in most cases you ship your remote (at your own cost), they update the remote and send it back. This will take a few working days probably.

The new-style remotes can be paired to the V1 motor controllers in the early GTs, but you have to change the Protocol setting in the remote to V1. The remote will still have the new up/downshift features, but it will stay locked in Fast & GT because of the V1 motor controller in the board.

Hey Zac , what do you mean will stay locked in Fast and GT? I have a v1 motor controller and can cycle through all the speed modes with the new remote paired in V1 config. :beers:

I mean the board won't automatically downshifting to ECO from Fast or GT when the battery drops, the board will die at some point tho. I prefer this in certain situations over the behavior of the new V2 motor controller...

Thats odd cos my V2 remotes does change down to Eco with the V1 motor controller when battery is low etc.

Hmmm. Well, I've only ridden my V1 Bamboo once with the new remote and the battery wasn't really low, so perhaps I'm wrong about this.

How low does your battery have to be to force the ECO auto-downshift?

Hopefully the rain will stop so I can do some more testing this weekend!

Are they releasing a new remote? Or is the GT remote the new remote?

the GT remote is the new remote, where you have left/sync button as the downshift, and the right button as the upshift

I've used both both version 1 and 2 remotes with my Bamboo GT and must admit while I like the down and upshift feature, the auto drop to eco mode is a bad idea and should be removed.

It appears to use a drop in battery percentage capacity, so if powering hard up a hill or off-road can cause eco mode to kick in when not expected and throw you off the board! (The previous version did not do this)

Also reverse feature should be moved or have an option to be deactivated as I never use it and don't really know any instance to use it?

I think Evolve could easily make updates for the remote via their website and maybe some user info that could be selected based on rider preferences. Come on Evolve sort this out.
