What types of trails to look for (offroad/AT)?

How do you guys go about finding fun offroad trails? Do you look for hiking trails or mountain biking trails? Hiking trails don't seem ideal because of the pedestrian traffic and possible narrowness.

I live in San Francisco and just got a Bamboo GT AT, so if anyone has any specific recommendations for the area, please let me know.

Hi, I find them by searching the web for "easy" level hiking or cycling trails. Gravel roads are fun if the tires are 20 PSI or less.

    That's a good idea Jaco.

I sometimes just hit up google maps near where I'm headed, look for large green park area, then zoom in until I find some tracks, paths or smaller roads through it.

Then I jump into street view to get a feel for the type of park or outdoor area it is. Works quite well in bigger areas like national parks as a lot of the smaller roads and paths have still been mapped and many have streetview.

For trails nearby San Francisco maybe some of the locals can give you suggestions?

rhlsthrm Alex There are good locations by golden gate, fremont, union city and san mateo area, mostly flat or small incline, good not to drain the battery quick. I planned some events but looks like members are not into it yet, it has been raining on and off like UK but hope the sun will be out soon. I do daily ride on the board as much as sunny.

Nice one F1KR3T, I've got it setup now that I can export the names of members from anywhere in a given radius of my choosing on the map.

So for any future events it will be a lot easier to invite anywhere nearby by tagging them. Hopefully that will help get word out about the events to those nearby and increase attendance.

Eventually you'll be able to do it yourself from the front end, but at least the functionality is there. For now I can do it manually for anyone that creates an event. Just tag me to get my attention and I can export the data and send the alert out.

Hi Alex thanks for the tag

My board gets here tomorrow, so haven't had a chance to look into this. I have been hiking in the presidio and that area looks like some good offroading!

I personally don't plan to offroad mine, I think it would have a significant impact on the longevity with sand and grit getting into the BLDC windings. I got the A/T wheels for the rough SF streets that the boosted jolts me over.

    happy riding :)

Alex my suggestion would be a gathering with close location members to meet in person first. Maybe a lunch and ride on a sunday or something like that, that would help to bond members and we can proceed with weekly or monthly meetings.

    No worries Omid :)

I definitely suggest you give the off roading ago when you get comfortable on the board though.

Land surfing and sweet carving on tarmac is awesome, but off road and dirt tracks is a whole different experience, it's 90% of the riding I do these days and I've not had any issues with sand or dirt. I love it (when I'm not stacking it and breaking one part of me after another)

F1KR3T, cool man. Sounds great, whatever you fancy.

It looks like there's about 50 members now in the the 100km radius around San Francisco, San Jose and Sacramento.

I'll be sure to check on on the event threads so we can get invites out for all of them from here on out.

I'm in the East Bay so don't get the board over to SF much. In the East Bay we're always finding new and interesting places to board. Cesar Chavez has some nice dirt trails that make for interesting boarding. Here is a little video my brother captured last time we were there:

I just stumbled across a feature in google maps where you can find trail paths marked up, it might help.

Thread here: I found a cool feature of google maps - highlighting trails, dirt/unpaved trails and bicycle paths
