LED Lights for your board

I saw some pretty sweet LED light setups at Critical Mass on Friday.

What with the winter nights drawing in, I think I'm going to look into getting some under board light action on the go.

Lets see pics of your setups and try to link to the lights that your bought.

Found these waterproof AA powered light strips on Amazon anyone recommend any others?

Might look into this electroluminescent wire too, for that Tron effect

They look great, shame the battery packs are so large!

They look pretty big, but the one I saw on friday was mounted to the bottom of the board with heavy duty double sided tape and wasn't really an issue once tucked away underneath.

I'm about to put some on my board, similar to the top amazon post. I'll let you know how it goes. I bought two 100cm strips to go on the underside but now I'm thinking I'll eventually buy a 200cm and put it the whole way round the edge of the board rather then underneath.

Personally I think these kind of setups with LED lights create a christmas tree effect. I would rather invest in some nice back and front lights as I think having good sight at the road ahead and being visible is more important.

If you're purely commuting, then I agree just front and back is most important. But the downlighting creates a really fun hoverboard like effect, great for fun rides and meets

For fun stuff yes absolutely something to do. Imagine this one but with LED in the evening!

Love that vid, one of my absolute favourites. Makes me miss Robin Williams though.

Alex for the fun of it I ordered one of the sets to check out the Tron effect

The battery pack is almost the thickness of the battery pack below the Evolve board so mounting would be fine. I just used some sticky tape to try the look and light output. The images give a good view of the setup but in my view the pictures even look better then in a real situation.

These are simply not strong enough to really make a difference in my view. The images show even more light output then in the real world.

The pictures look incredible mate. I can see it does look like they're not mega bright, so not suitable for below the board.

But do you think it's worth having them around the edge or on top? Or still not worth it?
Which ones did you order, was it the ones in the first post?

I imagine if it's real dark out it could look good.

Was driving home earlier in the dark and wet and saw two kids, must have been about 7 or 8 years old pelting along on their scooters. I thought they had tricked out lights on their scooters, they were incredibly bright.

Upon closer inspection it looks like they had these shoes on, it looked awesome! Was fascinating to watch as they had one foot fixed on the scooter making it look like the scooter had lights, then the movement of the foot they were using to kick push.

I don't think they do them in my size though :sob:

Yep, below the board is of no use. On top is also a no go, you will probably after a few rides kick them loose or damage them very quickly. The only option also for visibility would be the side but I think you have to figure out how to glue/stick them to the edges. I think the only way to really do this in a nice way is to make a small incision so they would sit flush. Not sure if you want to to do this with the board.

    The one I ordered:

I would probably go for LED below the board. This gives way more light and also has a nicer effect.....I ordered some to play around with in my home (backlight for my desk) and will try them also on the board and post some pics.

Does not look pretty with all the soldering and stuff but at night it gives a decent amount of light and also evenly spread.

Here with an option to stick LEDs to the side (I would not prefer this option)

And the simple approach with some double sided tape and sticky LEDs
