R2 Remote Tips

  1. Hi Guys, here are some tips for the new R2 remote, skate safe!

    1. Always power on the board first then turn on the remote, by doing this way, the pair up process is quicker and has lower fail rate.

    2. Adjust/reset the remote once a while can minimize potential problems. You can go to Evolve's official YouTube channel and watch the tutorial video there.

    One of the potential problem:
After using the R2 for a while, I notice that the brake trigger's travel distance is getting bit shorter than it's brand new condition, means the the trigger won't go back to it's default full release status after you squeeze it. This seems like nothing but the problem is that the default brake range setting is not changed with that! So what will happen is after you apply the brake once, the brake is always engaged even you release the trigger, so the board won't allow you to accelerate any more.

If it happened, don't panic or think your board is broken, just try to reset the brake trigger setting.

    3. Never ever drop your remote! Doesn't matter how Evolve say the remote is durable, it will crack, trust me.

    4. If the remote stuck at the SAFE gear, try to reset the remote first then apply and hold pressure on the end edge of the brake, then try to switch gear.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

First rule of remote controlled vehicles, ‘Always’ turn on the remote before the vehicle and turn off after the vehicle. Smooth carving.

A lot of discrepancy in this as i hear both ways . Evolve Youtube video shows turning the board on first then the remote ?? What do people have the best luck with ??

I’m a newbie but so far I turn the board on first, then the remote. No problems so far.

It depends. For Evolve boards with latest firmware and R2 remote, the board has been designed to look for remote signal after the startup/power on. For the R2 remote, since it's using 2.4GHz now, and 2.4GHz has a wide board of broadcasting range, If you turn on remote first then the board, there is a fair chance that the remote will miss the first few broadcasting wave from the board and the remote has to cycle through the broadcasting range to receive the match signal from the board, usually it takes time.

Instruction manual... I know most of us on here are guys and "guys don't need no stinking instruction manuals" but Its plane as day in the manual to turn the board on and off 1st. Yes this is opposite of what most of us have been taught messing around with RC remotes but wouldn't you think a company would know about their product more then "what we've all known in the past". This is the present and if Evolve prints a instruction manual that says turn the board on and off first, then the remote...well...that's probably the best way to do it.

Do you mean like the instructions clearly say you can have the battery percentage? Not that clear really.
