Headlamp recommendations for night riding?

Yo! I just got the Serfas Thunderbolt headlight/taillight combo, and while they definitely add to the steez factor at night, the headlight just isn't powerful enough for navigating in the dark. I'm currently using a cheapo headlamp off Amazon, but was wondering if any of you guys out there recommend a specific headlamp for night riding. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I did a little review of the Serfas Thunderbolt lights in my latest episode of Electric Wave if you're interested:

    Thanks!

Hey! Enjoy your vids, good job.

Same situation - got the Thunderbolts, love them but the range is not good. Got these two from Amazon. First is definitely brighter. But I'm trying to rig with a clamp mount, not successful yet. 2nd is also not bad, much better range than Thunderbolts. Can mount easily to front top of board with rubber bands. Hope this helps.

I was surprised at the battery life on the Thunderbolts too. They only last about 1.5hrs I believe, when on solid mode. Didn't last me an entire evening event.

Blinking is safer when commuting with traffic, and that does lengthen the time a fair bit. But it still seems like a pretty short battery life.

Then again I'm not that familiar with bike lights, so I'm not sure if that's par for the course?

Yes I felt the same way - running on high, they lasted me less than 90 min. They need to offer a deluxe model with a larger battery, and USB charging port on the side, not the back. I'd pay more for that. But they fit the GTs like they are made for them.

I highly recommend the LED armbands. These were higher than I paid, bought mine at costco. Something like 2 for $15. I also found USB rechargeable ones but had to modify the armband to be bigger. They have flashing and solid colors you can select using a single button and can cycle through 7 colors. Great for safety, I use them on all of my night commutes. I also run the lightening front/rear lights as well as a battery powered headlamp that I customized to mount on my helmet actioncam mount.

I also pickd up a couple like these, since they are USB rechargeable. But they didn't fit around my arm, only fit a kid or small girl it seems. I bought some extra velcro straps and extended the length to make them longer. I bought both a red and blue one.

Pretty cool, any info on battery length time? Can't find anything in the description at 120mAh

Nope, when I use them I'll try to record the runtime. Sure its similar to the lightening lights. Good for a quick nights ride then recharge.

Good for a quick blast then. I think we'll need to get use to charging stations where we can just plug in all our gear between rides until we get cell phone length battery strengths and lengths in all our accessories

Picked a couple lights for night mountain bike rides from an earlier version of this review:

(It looks like their 2015 shootout had a lot more details though)

Ended up with the Lezyne Deca Drive. I've tried to mount it on the board a couple times, but it seems to dip forward. I could probably sort it out, but I generally ride with the light in my left (forward) hand and remote in my right. It's nice to be able to point it away from traffic. A Flare R City red light on the back of my helmet, and a set of shredlights on my board (the shredlights aren't the best for seeing, and I'm not a huge fan of a red lens on a white LED for the rear, but I like small companies sometimes for no good reason *shrug* and, they are /really/ good for keeping the board visible and clearly designed by people who use them.)

    Summary:
-Main Light: Leyzne Deca Drive, hand held

-Tail Light: Bontrager Flare R City, helmet mounted
Bontrager Flare R City | Trek Bikes
    -Board mount: Shredlights
    Light Combo Pack

I do have some headlamps, but they wouldn't really be great for illuminating where I was going on a powered board. . . they're way more useful working in the dark or wrenching in an engine bay or setting up a campground when I'm late and get there after dark. . .

TL;DR: Maybe just buy two cheap Chinese lights and keep one in a backpack in case the first dies. Also, mountain bike lights are probably the closest useful reviews.
