How many riders use reverse ?
I can't think of one situation where it would be useful.

What about "below" slow (with the latest two button layout of "gear down on the left and gear up on the right) instead of reverse we have throttle lock... (throttle action disabled)
(and the board boot up in this mode - to ride you have to press the right button to "engage" the throttle response and set the speed to slow first then up again to eco etc.)

When done riding drop left button down below slow and throttle is disabled again. (but board still coastable as usual)
(so even if you did this accidentally while riding the worse that could happen is you just coast - not engage REV while moving)

Just in the last day since I've had my board, when moving it etc I've thought how careful you have to be to not nudge the trigger.

(I usually boot the board upside down, turn on the remote, wait, test then move it to the ride spot) - this seems to take two hands on the board or one and careful handling of the remote.

This would also eliminate the need for the "dead mans trigger" and make it electronic instead.

There are @ least 3 people on the Evolve owners FB page that want to keep the reverse. They use it for a 180 switch wack into reverse and keep going. Awesome skills but for the majority I would of think the gears is much preferred. I like your idea of a neutral setting

ah I never thought of that - makes sense - the low speed carving is really amazing too - like snowboarding in about a foot of snow - but the hill never runs out ! (had no idea Evolve managed to figure this out so well - fun doing figure 8s around the lines in a parking lot - carrying a bit of speed pushes you into the board and you can turn even tighter)

maybe make it a menu option - REV or THROTLOCK - (your choice)
