I purchased a Evolve Carbon gen 1 ( or early 2, the single motor one) and have been having a blast destroying these horrible excuses for roads here in NYC. As all thing in life, the fun ends too quickly, buying the board from a dude who didn't speak English was probably not the brightest idea. Regardless, I got a decent price I think (500$) and like I said have a lot of fun on it but I am only getting about 10miles on the slower mode. So i just have a couple questions if anybody could help me out it would be appreciated greatly.

It came with the original remote with three leds(red/yellow/green) and 2 buttons, can I upgrade this to the newer remote even though its the older carbon and not the newer one ? I build FPV drones and have a pretty good understanding for LiPo batteries, I'm assuming if i were to upgrade the batteries to a 12s5p config the esc and other electronics woulnd't take to kindly to the voltage spike right ? Or is this a feasible option. On the subject of batteries, I was watching some of the youtube videos and it battery swaps seems pretty straightforward (v2 anyway)e, is it tougher then it looks ? Am i wasting time trying to upgrade the single motor variant, I never got any torque twisting or any of that crap so I think it will be fine but am not sure.[

Right now with these jacked up batteries I can hit 21mph downhill in GT mode but then my battery starts red ligthing and start s cutting out. The fact that I'm like 260lbs with tree trunks for legs probably doesn't help ****, I watched videos and searched on youtube and I only find information about the super cool v2 model so I'm bit at a loss. If you guys know some good resources(like LHboy but cheaper lol) I can check out ill be much obliged. Thanks.

    NYC Diesel,

Please don't take this the wrong way but at 260 at some point either the motor will give way or the mount will have an issue. The two motor setup is what I would recommend for you but.......As you stated the battery sounds like it needs replacing. Not sure if evolve sells that version battery anymore but to me using their BMS is the way to go. They don't advertise the batteries on the website but if you email support they will let you know, they aren’t cheap. Most people are using the 18650 batteries to upgrade but I really only have experience with the gen 2 up. If you are comfortable with building packs I would check the space for how many 18650s you can fit in and prep for upgrading the pack. Spend a sucky weather weekend building it with the BMS from the failing pack and then ride the board until it falls apart. I do not know the answer to the remote upgrade. Either way enjoy and ride on!

P.S. but could I use but anymore in that response ;-)

Thanks for replying Xrayturner, Yea i'm 260lbs but I'm 6'2 can bench 485, squat and dl 75 . I'm a bodybuilder/powerlifter enthusiast (standing in front of an audience with a thong just wasn't appealing to me for some reason lol) bodyfat ls right around 15% but I guess I could drop some weight with the summer coming up but I can't see myself ever getting to 220, is 245 still hard on the motor and mounts ?

It's funny that you say that because I think I actually stripped the pinion gear (the one on the motor), I haven't diagnosed it yet. I guess the dual motors are better overall but compared to my electric scooter (450watts) this single motors heaves my ass up fairly steep inclines without any issues, slowly for sure, but it gets it done.

I have been looking at new battery packs for sure, I don't mind doing the soldering and wiring but then I know my self and I will be trying to get it to work witih a 50v system like a jackass and then fry everything and then just end up buying a new board. Thats what happens with all my drones anyway....

    NYC Diesel,

I hear you on the weight to body mass thing. I wasn’t trying to imply an overweight issue but more a board limit issue. I believe the 2 motor setup even has a recommended weight limit of 220lbs. Having said that I know there are people riding the dual motors that are your weight without issue. I have read posts where the single motor mounting bracket has bent when stressed. When you say you think you striped the gear do you mean the notches on the gear or some other part of it? One pointer on replacing that gear, heat it with a heat gun and use the proper allen wrench. The wench for the CGT is 1.5mm. If you strip that you are drilling the gear out to get it off. Also when going uphill if you can zig zag up the hill you will help take some stress off the motor and increase battery life. It really depends on whether you can do that or not. Most suburban streets that is easy but riding in say NY or Boston not so much. On the battery if you fry the board well you are pretty much toasted there so I wouldn’t go above the current packs nominal voltage. I believe it is between 36 and 42 but I am not a battery expert, I just follow instruction well. Good luck and have a great weekend.
