Abec 11 107mm worth it? What about gearing?

    Hey,

Thinking about getting a abec 11 107mm wheels but they are a decent bit of money and I already have the evolve 97mm... Has anyone tried both?? Are the 107 worth it? I am looking for less vibrations and a smother ride and the all terrain setup is to bulky for me.

Also when talking to evolve they suggested getting the 38tooth gear aswell, does anyone have any opinions on this?

    Thanks for the help!

I went from the 97mm to the 107 ABEC 11's and am very happy with them.
    Pros
The 97's were a good ride so I would not say the 107's are heaps smoother, but I do find they seem to roll better and deal with larger rocks\sticks better. I have hit some pretty big sticks and have had no issue's with stability on the bigger wheels.
I also find that they are much sticker when cornering. I am a better skater now than I was when I had the 97's so that might be a factor but I really feel I can just dig into a corner at speed with these and they will just stick.
I have also had mine for about 3 months and have not had any chunking, my 97's started losing chunks not long after I got them and by the time I swapped them out they were pretty bad.

    Cons
They make the board even heavier, so carrying it around is a bit of a pain
Mine also did not fit the board. I had to shave away about 2mm from the inside edge of the wheels before I could use them. I did this by putting them on the back with 3 spacers and used a mens razor to shave away the edge while spinning the wheel with the motor.

One of my kids has a GT with the 83mm wheels which I ride occasionally. That definitely is a different ride, it is a lot closer to the ground and a lot more responsive when cornering, but it does not feel as sticky when cornering. I might stick the 97's on that one day and see how they feel, but the 107's are more of a cruising wheel. I do 20ks a day on mine and do find the big wheels feel a lot nicer than the 87's.

As for the cogs I am still running a 32 tooth one and am thinking of trying the 38 tooth. Noticed a difference in acceleration and braking as soon as I put the bigger wheels on, and there are a couple of big hills I go up which it struggles on a bit now when the battery is not fully charged (The -5 degrees really impacts the battery as well which makes the lack of torque more noticeable).

+1 on the heavy. I just went from 107 to 97 for that reason. I definitely noticed a bit of a harsher ride, and the 97's don't bite like the 107's, but I think I'm going to stick with it for a little while. Total weight dropped by 2lbs after the swap. I can now pick the board up from a rolling position with 1 hand.
