Another battery question

I managed to go for a longer ride today on my gt and loved it!!!! But saw some strange behaviour on the battery, towards the end of the session the battery was going in to the red whilst riding but if I reduced speed or stopped battery was showing 35-40%! What gives?

Does that mean that if it hits 0 when riding it will cut out?

Was only about 7 miles in with AT wheels

Battery percentage will gonip and down real time. So if you going faster on board uses more battery. Constant speed gives you a accurate reading. When you stop shoots up cos battery not in use.

Yep when you hit zero will switch off. Always be carful putting the board under heavy load with less than 30% left.

I have a Bamboo GT & with AT wheels I can get 12 miles in Eco mode. Definitely be careful when below 30% if you're using heavy throttle. Get one of the new SuperFast chargers & then you can get a full charge in about an hour, so 8-10 more miles of fun

The battery gauge going up and down is just one of those early design stages of an EV product. Sure they'll get it dialed in over time. I had a 2010 Zero DS electric motorcycle that was the same way, us the throttle more and the battery gauge would drop down, even if you were 50% the E would flash thinking you were closer to empty. This was on a 4kW hour battery pack too.... Let the bike sit and then it would jump way up. To the user its just a bad experience and leaves you uncertain what range you truly have. But you learn as your ride / use it more and what these behaviors mean. I now ride a Zero 2013 FX with the twin 2.8 kW battery cubes, they call it the 5.7 FX. The battery gauge on this bike, 3 years later, is very refined and gives an accurate measure in real time of the current battery capacity no-matter if your riding or stopped.

Thanks, good guide, I tend to ride in fast most of the time now

Has anyone actually got 'Bat drain' to come up on screen when under load? I mean when they know the battery has over 30% left but they see it quickly drops over 30% down into the red? I just tested a few times. It gets to 0% but didn't cut out. Maybe we just shouldn't look at the remote so much!

As the battery drain is estimated by battery voltage, which drops under load, the reading is very inaccurate. You see, the board has a low-voltage protection to avoid the battery voltage dropping too low, which would damage the battery, so I guess as long as it goes, you're fine. When it shuts down because it's drained, don't try to turn it on again and squeeze the last bit out of it, that's not very healthy for the battery.

Also, I totally love your deck, good job!

I've forced my Bamboo GT into Batt Drain a few times to the point where it shut down. I didn't know re-booting the board to get more mileage was bad for the battery... Whoops.

Was it forced into bat drain from loading it up a hill? and when you started did it have a decent % left in battery, or did it just drain from the number of kms you did?

It happened under a load, going up an 7-8 floor parking garage, after riding about 10 miles :)

did the board throw you when it cut off?

No, it just powered down, as if the power was turned off. I was going uphill, rather slowly

So not the scenario I am questioning then. It seems you got a genuine bat drain after so many Kms.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your question. But, on one other occasion I got the Batt Drain on flat ground after a long ride, but it didn't throw me off.

I am wondering if anyone gets bat drain when riding up a steep hill when the voltage sags from say a genuine 35-45%% left. (Not when you have already drained the battery from normal range kms) mine gets to 0% but doesn't go into bat drain

Not mine. When I got the Batt Drain msg it was reading 0% for a while, while riding...

Today I got the battery drain message. Full battery. After 5-10min of riding suddenly the remote shows battery drain and the board shut down. I was going full throttle in fast mode. Slightly down hill. Strange :/
