Is it good idea to waterproof Carbon GT?

I took the circuit boards out of the carbon completely. I actually used a small foam brush to apply it. To do this I simply sprayed the brush at the tip and then coated the electronics.

In the original vid the chap left the silicon strip to dry before closing up the board. So it acted like a squishy rubbery seal. The top comes off and on like normal without affecting it, it's not a permanent seal.

    That seal looks great funkyj!

Good to know thanks Alex, I just came across "Proto-Putty" seams like a perfect application,

Woah, that's really cool for something that you can just make at home.

Don't you guys worry about heating when sealing the battery?

I can't imagine the battery would get too hot on discharge when moving what with constant air flow above and below the enclosure. It's a valid concern though. Anyone know if the battery heats up much discharging at the current required to power the board?

Funkyj... you got it dude, this looks almost perfect... how does the lid sit on top of the seal now? Is it raised?

Plz show us what you did with the motors!

I used o ring cord .03" thick with a hardness rating of 70. After riding on light mud and damp AT the o ring kept everything on the outer side. It may be better than silicone as if its too thick it will raise the cover....

I emailed corrosionx co regarding dipping the motors into their stuff. Will advise upon reply. Anyone else play with corrosionx on their board? If so how and what? Thanks!

Note: An evolve motor controller costs £200 to replace.

Mine died and they're claiming its water damage, two components were badly damaged, one chipped, the other was blown. Its not a question of whether or not you seal the board. Its a must. Although I doubt that would have helped my chipped component.

For an all terrain sports board it was an oversight of theirs perhaps. Its easy enough to build an enclosure that prevents dirt and water getting in by design.

    Got my response from corrosionx:

    Hi,

Thank you so much for your interest in Corrosion Technologies products. Really good question….in fact, second one regarding electric skateboards this week.

As we are not really sure what “waterproofing” the skateboard fully entails, we have to be careful using the term. Evolve warns to “Avoid water - The board is not water proof. The electronics, bearings and other components may be damaged due to water.” Our experience with commercial and military avionics and the remote control industry proves that CorrosionX is safe and effective for the electronics and bearings. It will also have no adverse effect on the motor so dipping the motor into CorrosionX will help protect it from rust and corrosion. Every batch of CorrosionX is tested to ensure a minimum of 39,000 volt dielectric breakdown. This means that the product will be non-conductive up to (in most cases, exceeding) 39KV. To effectively treat the motor, you probably don’t have to worry about a long soak; CorrosionX instantly polar bonds to metal so a quick dip and drip dry is all you need. Whether or not it will “waterproof” the skateboard; it will provide a significant safety margin for operating these boards in adverse conditions.

By the way, we also offer a product designed specifically for roller bearings. SpeedX is an enhanced CorrosionX formulation with functional additives that enhance slipperiness, wear and extreme pressure protection. As skateboard, bicycle and roller-skate bearing lubrication are not typically electrical or electronic applications, we do not have dielectric data on this formulation. CorrosionX will be non-conductive and, while I don’t have the data, I know that SpeedX will demonstrate some degree of non-conductivity.

Please note the manufacturer’s warranty “damage as a result of moisture exposure is not considered a manufacturer defect and consequently, not covered by warranty. Riding in wet conditions is also very dangerous and may cause injury.” They advise that their “warranty does not apply to any electric skateboard that has been subject to abuse, misuse, negligence, or accident (i.e. riding in wet conditions, dropping the board etc.).”

Importantly, keep both products off the belt and traction surfaces. I also suggest keeping them off the carbon fiber board. While I was unable to find any information from the manufacturer regarding the carbon fiber boards incompatibility with petroleum oil, I would suggest that if the product accidentally gets on the carbon fiber board, promptly use a clean, dry cloth to remove it.

    Hope this is helpful.

Nice but what is the "brown belt" you put around?

The guy in the first post posted an update in February. His waterproofing efforts seems to have help up pretty well

  15. @funkyj - which NanoProTech product did you purchase?
There seems to be 3 types. https://www.nanoprotech.com.au/products/

    Nanoprotec lubricant/ insulation/ anti-corrosion
    - I am thinking it has to be https://www.nanoprotech.com.au/products/latter 2 since it mentions about protection on moisture.
insulation protects from moisture and anti-corrosion displaces it!
