HI All, just joined this forum thinking I was the old guy here at age 47 but clearly I am a spring chicken!

I am Steve, a photographer and it geek from Sydney. I used to skate as a kid as well as billy cart, three wheel and bike everywhere, always making my own stuff, so I have always been into human powered vehicles....I try and run two to three times a week nowadays and cycle in to work (very short distance) mostly every day.

I have been riding a penny board to keep the skate skills up (especially to try and remember how to footbrake - that has been tough) but have a GT Bamboo on order, and will be eventually commuting with the BGT. I occasionally do it on the penny so I have my route worked out.

BGT is currently on a delivery truck between Gold Coast and Sydney. Hurry up!

54 here next month. First skateboard had clay wheels so there are times when I read the debates about street wheels or what ATs can roll over and it makes me smile. A little pebble caused my clays to skid ;-) I also have a GT Carbon and I love switching the wheels, each set provides such a different feel. Enjoy and Skate on!

Age is just a number. Not real sure how old I am but I do have some gray hair on the side of my head but none down below.

55 years young. 6' 1". 155 lbs. Dogtown is Z story of my youth. I grew up surfing and skateboarding everyday when everyone idolized Gerry Lopez and style was everything. I haven't surfed or skateboarded since my 20s. I'm still a motorcycle guy with an aprilia Tuono in the garage, but I've been missing something. The carve and flow. Evolve is selling out per-orders through June fast and these things are virtually unobtainble. At the last minute before becoming a per-order pedestrian, I located a retailer that has 80 Evolve boards (all GT) arriving Monday. I paid my money and am expecting my new Carbon GT with AT wheels by the middle of next week. And, as with travel, women and skateboards, the anticipation is part of the excitement. If anyone wants to know where these boards are, I'll tell.

I joined this foum 15 minutes ago. Hi everyone!

51 with 52 just around the corner. I still ride all the time. My new Carbon GT is my first electric longboard, although I have ridden a friend's Boosted V1, and a One Wheel prior to purchasing this one. I definitely don't feel anywhere close to slowing down on a board anytime soon!

There are a lot of guys here on this board who have been at this for awhile. Probably the inventors of the board too and young hot-shots who can do things I wouldn't and couldn't do in my prime. I get that. I accept my humble position on the totem pole here and will give all of the best waves to the locals with all deserved respect. But I know that here are a lot more guys like me out there still. Thinking about pulling the trigger on a $2,000 toy to recapture something they remember and miss. So here goes...

Last night was the unboxing. And my OMG this is a piece of art reaction was a YouTube cliche. It was done charging around 1:30 last night.

I got home from work an hour ago. It's 100 degrees outside. I put on a pair of Converse and immediately went outside with my nice work clothes and the board. I didn't fall, but came close when I tried the brakes. I can't start it in GT mode yet. Frankly, GT mode was a little terrifying my first time. But I got it up in Fast mode, started slowly carving back and forth, and got a huge grin on my face. Some guy in a car followed me watching and waving for awhile.

First impression: It's going to be really easy to want to start flying around and carving before I master the start and stop, and the remote overall. Which means it's going to be really easy to get into unexpected situations which are hard to respond to. Which means I get hurt. The remote is very, very sensitive and I'm sure it's just a matter of getting used to this absolute sensitivity with the index finger combined with an aggressive riding approach. So, as much as I want it all now, I'm actually going to practice starting and stopping over and over until I get it down and cut loose.

I only got to ride it for 10 minutes or so before I got called elsewhere. Tomorrow I have a full day. Saturday I am devoting to it. It kind of sucks where I live, but everything paved is new and smooth with banked runs in park after park that are completely empty most often.

The promise of this toy in my life I can see. It will deliver.

    More to follow...

Ignatz – Congratulations, there is a lot of fun coming your way and maybe a little pain as you learn the board. E-boards are a different beast and it took me a little time to start to get my muscles used to the different pressures. Do yourself a favor, that trigger is crazy sensitive in fast and gt mode; get yourself one of the flatland 3d trigger guards. With shipping it is like 20 bucks and it may save you a trip to the urgent care or emergency room. I have no affiliation to flatland but that guard is a must. Cheers!

I'm 64. My last skateboard had steel wheels. (borrowed my sister's skates, cut them in half and nailed them to a 2x4). Just got a Carbon GT with the AT wheels a few days ago. Yeehaw! I spent about 12 years riding and racing snowboards (hard boots and plate bindings) and found I can use the exact same techniques on my new Evolve. Crazy fun.

Broken radial head right below the elbow. Full cast. Two cracked ribs.

100% user error. For some weird dyslexic reason I was "down-shifting" from Fast coming up on a stop and I somehow put it into reverse thinking it was Slow (I had reversed ECO and Slow in my mind) and accelerated which made the board stop on a dime and reverse. I got thrown and have a big knot on my forehead from the street also.

Before I went home to assess the damage I rode some more for awhile.

Lesson: learn the control well before taking the board out excitedly immediately after the unboxing.

I've been hurt far worse. No big deal other than not being able to ride for a short time. All good. I love the thing, but am learning to respect it as well.

56 years young here , really wish I was 19 again and know what I know, but it is what it is and will be what it will be!

The mind will be what ever age it wants to be, the body will be the limiting factor.
