As requested by Spartan117, in the interest of education and in the event that the information may prevent someone else from making the same mistake, I've undeleted all the relevant posts earlier in the thread and added a warning to each post.

Now, after thinking a little bit about what may be the problem for the cells going off, I think the main problem was that you need spacers between the cells like the ones used in the metro board.
Otherwise the thin isolation between the cells go away after a few rides due to vibrations. Then you have a short circuit and boom...

I am supposing it was the fact that you had your bms over your vesc? I assume the heat from the vesc is not good for the bms connected to the battery? There is a reason they are separated I assume.

No, I don´t think so. The vesc is separated in two parts. The upper board wich has the logic and receiver on it and the power board which is mounted to the plate underneath the deck. The power board is the only thing that gets hot. Also the bms was just sitting beside the vesc. Although I can´t completely disprove your point.

Shouldn't we setup an "Evolve innovation lab"....we all chip in a few euro so Spartan117 can continue to experiment and does not need to ruin his own board.....Evolve will be the sponsor of some components and we allow Evolve to take any of our findings and use this for their own development/research.....and all who paid a few euro's get a discount when buying a new board as of our investment....win/win I would say.

That would be great, but I doubt evolve would be okay with that.

Ok we leave out the Evolve involvement ;-) Just raise some money for experiments done by approved forum members?
