Custom battery for Evolve Bamboo GT

    Thats a negative :(

I tried and its just a little too tight of a space. Putting it there covers up the holes where the motor lines come in.

Luckily you've got that extra case coming in. Now its all about how to connect the two successfully.

Also I'm thinking as long as I'm having to extend the case might as well extend it more than I was planning on and go for a bigger battery. :grinning:

    Maybe a 10S5P...

Thanks for that info, I think to fit a 10S5P you would need to move the entire case backwards to give you the room at the front so you would also need to redrill all the deck bolt holes.

Yeah I'd go with a new deck.

I've been looking into this as well, and Barajabali from the Esk8 forum is going to build a 10S6P battery for me and use the existing BMS that's attached to the Evolve deck. After seeing the first few posts, it seems like a 10S4p is way better than the stock Evolve battery, but why not just spend the extra few dollars for a larger battery. 5 miles with AT wheels just isn't enough range for me.

I'm also extending the Evolve battery cover. I planned on trimming the stock cover just past the last set of mounts, and trimming the extension cover just before the the second last mounts. This way there would be 2 sets of mounting holes right next to each other-where one ends and the other begins. I was then going to silicone a thin strip of plastic on the inside of the cover to keep it watertight. The new battery cover will be approx. 30.5" long. Since the battery case is too short for the height of the batteries, I may either route the deck a little, or put some spacers between the deck and the cover, and use foam tape on the sides to seal it. Any recommendations?

The new battery cover won't fit on any stock board that I can find, so I called Longboard Larry in Oregon, and he's interested in making a custom board for me. It's going to be similar shape and style as the Evolve deck, but with a platform of approx. 30" to mount the cover. It's also going to be 10 ply maple to reduce flex. I should have a price and layout in the next day or 2. Anybody else interested for a group buy in? It might reduce cost for everyone involved...

Here's what I've found on battery pack sizes. It's easy to figure out as 18650 batteries are 18mm wide and 65mm long
Stock Evolve battery: 13.3" long. IIRC, it's about 5.3" wide
    10SP4 14.2x5.1"
    10SP5 17.8x5.1"
    10SP6 21.3x5.1"

I'll keep you all posted as things progress.

There's not enough room on the deck for a 10SP5. You need an extra 4" of length for that size battery

Here's a pic of the innards. The BMS is in the same shrink wrap as the battery. Battery is approx. 13.3" long

I was considering having a custom battery made for my Carbon GT but based on what happened to Spartan117 on this forum, I'd advise against it right now. He used high quality LG HG2 cells so unless we find out the root of the issue I'd recommend holding back from changing the battery.

    Carbon GT battery dimensions?

We don't know what caused it but he stated that he was at 36v and he got the battery drain warning on his remote.

So just to let you all know, I'm still planning to go ahead with my battery build.
Some parts have arrived and more should be arriving tomorrow. I have also designed a battery spacer that will sit between each bank of 4 batteries to keep them separated.
    Some bits,

Time to test the cells and see if these things are genuine.......

You got to check this video out....nice approach and you can see getting extra mileage isn't easy....

Yeah I watched that the other day, I was shaking my head the entire time. It's like a pinata of dab ideas.

No offense, but the premise of the video was great but the execution was horrid. You ABSOLUTELY should NEVER mix battery chemistries - pretty sure that's one of the cardinal rules. Since OP is simply changing the battery pack but using the same chemistry, he should be fine, he just needs to put in place as many safeguards as he can.

I don't have enough knowledge on electronics and just liked the, in my view, simple approach. Of course I understand the risks but love to see people try this stuff.

I did the same way back with my Sony Walkman (yes that was in 1984 and I loved my WM-DC2) ;-). Just used some tape to connect extra batteries and adjusted the speed (you could change this on the logic board with a control as the extra batteries did influence this) to get some more listening time.....And yes of course your could just swap the batteries but now I was able to put it in my bag and start doing my round of delivering newspapers without worries.

Worked fine but these where only a few 1.5v batteries. Things evolved and now you can listen hours and hours on almost any device so it looks like history will repeat itself. In 20 years time we ride our e-boards for 100km at continues top speed and need to worry about autopilot options being introduced.
