Yep, my experience has not been so great with them. I actually don't really enjoy riding the board as I'm on edge the whole time waiting for something to "happen".
Yes, not a good feeling. I have it pretty much down, at least I hope I do, when I feel my CGT is going to do something stupid. I have to keep an eye on the remote constantly and ensure I have the antenna / battery %. If not, all bets are off that I'm safe and in control with the GT. I also can feel the remote dumb down, like it goes into ECO mode even though I have great battery (80%). Possibly it drops down into ECO when it looses a connection. No torque in FAST/GT even though the remote shows FAST/GT. Bad bad feedback (remote/board) Then when the connection comes back it processes all your inputs hence you end up in REVerse, go flying off in GT mode, etc. I also get a choppy feel from the remote at times, jaggidy, not concise. Not sure if that is tied to the remote. Tends to go away as I ride the board more in the session, so it could be the damn motor controller again. Heat/cold changes electronics if they're on the edge of their spec. Just keep an eye on it and try to just be and stay aware on it. Also be very vocal with and to Evolve. The more that customers voice this isn't right, their customer service, QA, and quality of the board components, then and only then will they make a change and listen.
I tag them in every vlog I post but they remove them on their Facebook. It's a shame, they have a somewhat decent product and we're the guinea pigs doing the testing for them, but they are not listening to what we are reporting back!
^^Exactly^^ Thanks for being persistent. There's a bunch of Evolve enthusiast I've been fighting with from time to time on the Evolve GT owners Facebook page that believe that since their board does not exhibit defects / issues, that they believe its the rider. I really hate that type of mentality, especially when you're a Hardware, Software, QA engineer who understands all this stuff and has guys who've been working in the silicone and wireless industry for the majority of their lives, working at places like Apple, Amazon, Cisco, etc. Its like they're either unaware, ignorant, or both on all the issues popping up with these boards. I still can't see how they made it to #1 on that TechCruch or TechGear review, I'd love to give them my buggy board and see what they think I honestly feel Evolve knows about all these issues we're discussing but isn't doing a darnn thing, at lease in adequate time, to address them. In my opinion I just seeing them trying to scoop in all of the money flowing in from people who don't know what serious issues some of these boards have, and God, when I see someone riding a GT without a helmet in a video I just wish that the guy stay's safe and the board works 100% for them. One right nick in the right place on your noggin and you're done. Well keep up with letting people know as I do. I feel we do have enough riders with GTs who have had some serious flaws to back up all our claims if we need that. I'm here to support anyone who does. This crap is unacceptable and unethical in my opinion. I'd never let something out the door like this, and if something did creep out somehow due to a broken process, I'd jump on it faster than flies on a turd to make sure its fixed and doesn't happen again, I'd also contact existing customers to let them know of a potential danger with riding the board. Again, Evolve won't do that since their getting so much $$$ coming in with sales, they think putting something out regards to the rider's safety is bad publicity and might shrink that cash river coming in. So they keep pumping the boards out with these issues until someone finds a lawyer who'll jump on this.
Agree with everything you have said. And for me: the enjoyment of the ride is gone as I'm always wondering "when" will something go wrong as opposed to "if".
I am a tall rider 220lbs+, was testing range on street wheels & went 19.5 miles mostly flat trail (Burke Gilman Seattle, Matthews Beach To Fremont and back) with some slight grade. Had 10-20% left on my Bamboo GT with 83mm street wheels averaging 11-12 MPH. Used Eco on flats, fast or GT on grades. This was my 3rd ride (Long time boarder and Ninebot One E+ owner) still learning & got my 1st scrape. The remote was not connected/showing battery level a couple times.. which by itself is not a huge deal but on one occasion it was slow to shift.. thankfully I slowed & only going about 9-10 MPH, but it did go into reverse! (Yes I have the new remote, but because it lost signal the commands were delayed) The only casualty was an LCD screen on my camera (which was on my belt) some aches & scrapes. But I definitely think you should be able to completely DISABLE reverse. I will never use reverse. What if I was going 20MPH+ ? Yikes!! Evolve should also do away with the board shifting into ECO automatically when battery is at 40%. Going up a hill in GT and having a Mandatory shift down, is also dangerous. I should be able to control when I shift gears! These are 2 major flaws and could be a deal breaker if it happens again. Just dumb really.. asking for trouble. Whoever thought of these ideas.. should repent.. change it, or be fired. It will detract from the overall potential this board has to cruise and have fun without worrying about the risks of breaking body parts because of these 2 design debacles. Otherwise a very fun board. good control, stylish and the advertised range is spot on.. we had lunch at Google headquarters on Lake Union and many employees were checking out complimenting the board. So I am on the side of Evolve... as this is the brand of board I purchased, but please allow reverse to be DISABLED and remove the mandatory/forced shift down.
This sound familiar to you guys? What to do? havent contacted evolve yet about it as I just noticed it. Removed the wheels so I could clean things up and see where it was coming, the other motor is fine.
Look ar your pinion the inner edge have some smashed metal on it, i seenit clearly at video. Seems that it causing that sound when it hits the motor mount bolts.
My best guess is that some rock stuck for little time between the pinion and motor mount and damaged a pinion inner side and now it hits the motor mount bolt. Try to sand the pinion inner side ( motor side) with sandpaper .
Fixed. Got permission to take motor apart, found out this gunk inside anyone know what is it and should it be there? scraped the top piece off, as I thought it could of made the noise by hitting something when turning, couldnt remove the bottom one, its VERY hard to get off. Put the motor back together and its working without extra noise. The other motor now is making similiar noise instead, but its not even close as bad as the other was before so im just going to leave it as it and ride it untill it something similar happens again they even suggested sending me new motor if I couldnt get it fixed. Loving the germany evolve support!
I fixed mine. It was the motor can. One motor if you pulled on the motor can, it didn't move. The other you could pull it a little bit and it would separate from the part that it mounted to the motor mounts. Very clear candidate for a rattle. I took the shaft out, took the can off... everything was fine. I replaced the bearing for some preventive maintenance, but it was actually ok. Smacked the shaft back in, and the can had no play at all. Rattle gone. So either the can itself or the brass spacer inside the motor was able to move a bit. One observation is that this motor was much harder to get the shaft out than my other one. I also couldn't snug the shaft without hitting it out first, after taking it out the shaft was able to be seated just fine. I'm not sure where this play came from, everything was always tight, but regardless. The good news with that is it is nothing but annoying. Nothing would catastrophically fail and toss you.
To be honest I don't think this is a motor issue, the rattle my board(s) exhibit is a plasticy type rattle, not metallic, sounds like an issue with the 32T wheel motor adapter gear than the motor, makes no sense that the rattle would go away when switching to an AT setup. Furthermore, I just bought a carbon GT a couple weeks ago and it has the same problem as the BGT with the street setup (I'd like to think evolve updated the motors since then because this problem is over a year old). I'm going to make a video tonight to document the noise I have. Can someone that claims ripping the motors apart to change the bearings look at the video I'm gonna post and confirm that it's the same sound? Thanks in advance!!
Ok as promised here are 2 links to 2 videos showing the noise about 12 seconds in on the 1st vid https://photos.app.goo.gl/TtevRFHRTPABZc6b7 Check it around 46 seconds in this https://photos.app.goo.gl/g8MJbd3kXUJjdWZY7 It's almost like a plastic grinding noise most apparent when going over rough pavement or sidewalks, let me know if this is the sound you guys hear as well or not, many thanks!!
