Snake 'Rattle' and Roll

  1. Hi all,

Super stoked to have my new Bamboo GT. Absolutely in love with it. I am running the street configuration and clocking up the miles on a daily basis.

I have one slight issue that I wondered if anyone else has experienced or found a solution to.

On the street set up I can here a rattle like noise coming from the back end which I am pretty sure is coming from near the motor area. It sounds like something is loose.

I have contacted the Evolve UK Facebook guys who have been really helpful in helping me track the noise down. They have also noticed the rattle but confirmed that it only happens on the street set up.

On a perfectly smooth road you cant hear it until you hit a rough patch. On slightly rougher roads it can be heard all the time and is quite an annoyance. It is kinda ruining my enjoyment of the board am I am super keen to fix it.

So far I have tried the following:

    - Checked all nuts, bolts, screws and washers for tightness
    - Removed wheels and checked motors are secured and are nice and tight
    - Removed spacers from inside wheels
    - Tightened truck bushes

Try removing and re-seating the gear bearings. They can sometimes become dislodged due to excessive vibrations while riding and cause that rattling sound.

When I installed the bearings in my AT wheels I coated the outside of the bearing races with some wheel bearing grease. My AT wheels are nice & quiet. I saw this tip on a video somewhere....

I have the same rattle. As the OP suggested, it's not all the time but when you cruise over some rougher terrain it certainly doesn't sound "healthy".

could it be the spacer in between the bearings in one of the rear wheels?

It's not really possible to feed the wheel (and hence both bearings in the wheel) and the spacer over the thread any other way than the correct way tho? Or are you saying the wheel nut may not be tight enough? (But I'm pretty certain they are as tight as they will go).

How about the washers between the drive and the wheel? play around with the number and see if you can get it just right.
    OR get a bluetooth speaker!

From what I can tell there is a fixed washer on the truck right where the bearing sits but no other?

Dont over tighten the wheel nuts or you will reduce range. I go tight, then undo half a turn.

I have the ratterling too on street wheels but have just accepted it what seems to come with street setup, removing spaces etc has made no difference, greasing the washers made a slight improvement. Bluetooth speaker as Paul suggested works for me, also lets people know I'm coming! :p

As long as there is no performance issues I don't really care about the noise. It's normal for a skatie to make "some" rattling noise anyway :)

I had this on my Series 2 bamboo, I came to the conclusion it was a damaged baring. When I replaced it the noise went away.

Surely a damaged baring would be noisy on all terrains?

I have this too, but only on black evolve wheels, 83mm abec11s are ok, maybe an issue with evolves wheels, My thoughts were that the extra width was creating more noise

Its a definite metallic vibration noise. Sounds like the motor area

Evolve need to investigate this. We are forking out £1400 + for these boards. Seems strange that they dont know about it from testing.
