In this shot (above) after I had fitted the new kit, the tyre was actually rubbing against the belt guard on the inside of the wheel. I’ve placed a brightly coloured cloth to highlight & help show through any daylight between the guard & the wheel but there’s no gap at all. I was so mad keen to get on the board after I fitted the AT kit to my GT board that I didn’t pick up on this at the time, but I really felt after riding that a) there was extra noise that I didn’t expect and b) that the rolling resistance was higher than I’d like.

When I fitted the kit there was an instruction to apply lithium grease to the bearings when inserting into the wheel and I didn’t have any at that time. So this weekend I bought some from an auto store, and pulled off my wheels to apply it as per the instructions. This is when I noticed the issue with the wheel rubbing on the guard.

I’d bought a pack of nuts & bolts from the Evolve guys (I’d had a bolt go missing after I had a crash on the board) and I figured I would try putting an extra black washer between the wheel & the drive gear. This would push the wheel 1mm or so out further on the axle but the risk of the drive gears flanges not engaging properly wasn’t too great I thought since they protrude out a good 30mm or so.

I wound up putting 2 extra washers in there, as with 1 it was still rubbing. The result is below. As you can see it now just clears the guard. I have yet to test ride as its pouring with rain at present. Will update below with results.

In this shot - after my fix, you can see that the type of the AT converted wheel is very close to the belt guard: but there is a clearance. It’s only 1-2mm but it does clear.

Is it possible the motor brackets are bent? Top photo looks a bit out of alignment but could be how the photo is taken

Distinctly possible & good suggestion. I stacked a few times when I was learning & at least one of those times the motor brackets took a hit. You can see by the abrasion where the black powder coat has come off leaving the shiny metal showing.

Not sure what to do if that is the root cause. Maybe I could get it down to the Evolve shop on the Gold Coast, get them to see what they could do about it. If that is it, its not something I can fix myself properly - I don’t have a workshop or anyway to check the alignment of the brackets - then it means a bunch of expense & time without my board.

Maybe I’ll have to wear that. Wonder if riding it the way it is will cause too many problems?

It’s so hard to tell - I mean they don’t look bent to me, but we’re only talking a millimeter or two so it’d be easy for it to be that far bent & be very difficult to tell with the naked eye. :-(

Could potentially be putting the motor under slightly more stress than normal.
It seems the motor bracket is a weak point so before it snaps it might be worth just ordering a new 1 (or couple) and swapping out.

A lot of people have said over tightening of belts seems to a cause for the motor brackets snapping.
Would possibly pull the bracket towards the wheel before snapping?
Check that belt isn’t over tightened.

(P.S. i don’t own a board but have done huge research before parting with my cash ...which will be soon!)

I just bought a bamboo GTR and converted it to AT. Same problem on one wheel. Can’t work it out and blew all my cash on the board and parts. Did you ever find what the issue was?
