Battery depleted sudden stop!

Anyone else wish that when the battery depleted message comes up you would get a warning first? I was hookin' at 32km in GT mode and BAM!! Battery Depleted happened and the resulting jolt the board gave as the motor stopped threw me off. Not pleasant!!

I hear you, that's not good at all. They need to detect this critical condition and once the threshold has been hit to begin beeping the remote and shutting down the board by first activating the regenerative braking to safely bring the board to a gradual stop.

Totally!!! I literally came flying off at 32km (or just shy of it) because of it!!

You should forward your feedback to Evolve, this type of stuff has to be shaken out for safety reasons. I've had similar experiences with riding full force, leaning forward and had bluetooth connectivity issues hit cutting off acceleration 100%. Its a total setup for a face plant on the tarmac. Boards these days should bring the rider safely back to a slow stop if any disconnects or battery exceptions occur.

I was thinking about putting together some kind of suggestions forum on here to consolidate ideas and feedback for improvements of the boards/remote/everything.

People could create a thread and in the first post put together a detailed proposal of what their suggestion is and what their reasoning is behind it including as much info.

Then as other Evolvers read and relate to it they could add their own input due to it being a discussion format, and provide feedback to the first post in forms of likes, which would help us to gauge how many people would be interested in that improvement/adjustment.

Of course, it would rely on the decision makers at Evolve reading the feedback. But if it's consolidated in one discussion as opposed to (or even in addition to) being sent as individual feedback emails to distributors around the world, then Jeff and Co. could be linked to the threads with quality thought out ideas and a metric of how many users are on board with that idea. This way there might be a better chance of the suggestions being considered and improvements getting implemented.

Even though my board did shut off when the battery reached 0%, It didn't throw me off, there was almost no jolt. I was going 32km/h on full throttle. Is it because I am using the AT setup? I haven't tried the street setup, so I can't tell.

Anyway, I totally agree with you guys, some kind of warning would be really useful!

That's a great idea Alex, do you have anyone from Evolve on here actively following along?

Yep, got a few people from various regions popping their head in as far as I'm aware.

Being a small company it's pretty much impossible for them to follow all social media channels and conversations though, yet I see a ton of great ideas and feedback floating around.

If users took the time to rewrite and flesh out some of the ideas put forward into threads that could easily be shared, it might get the cogs turning and some of these ideas converted to reality a bit quicker.

Also with 'improved' suggestions I find its also good to post what you 'really like' about the board, which for me seems like the good things about it will be rather long once I get to stop onto my new board next week.

Whenever I reach below 30% battery left I'm real easy giving it full power or putting the battery under load. Found this works well. The loss of power resulting in what feels like a jolt when your not expecting it is not so strong and can be handled comfortably. :punch::thumbsup::beers:

I do the same. Once it hit 30% I switch over to eco mode and go easy on the trigger.

Is that when you hit 30% under load or when at rest?

Underload. Resting I find is a meaningless reading.

So another GT bamboo AT ride today and thought I'd share distance and battery - I managed 6.1 miles, dipping to 8% on fast and still showing 23% on eco and when still. Does that sound about right?

hmmm, should get a little more than that i'd say, maybe the battery needs a few full charges to settle in??

For a fair test of range you have to ensure the battery pack is fully balanced. To do that you need the pack to sit on the charger for a minimum of 1/2 to 1 day, maybe even more if the battery is way out of balance. Typically what makes them go out of balance is not to give the battery time after the charge to complete to balance, such as pulling the plug and letting the board sit and also just jetting out the door to ride. You'll get less range and less power if your pack isn't balanced. I always leave my boards plugged in overnight so they're balanced and ready to go in the morning. If you do this there's no need to wonder if it does need to be balanced and also have the maximum range and power the pack can provide....

Would this apply if I'm using a fast charger? Thanks

YES. No matter how many amps you put into that battery, the battery pack's cells need to be balanced out by the BMS.
