Gen2 Carbon board cutting out/turning off

Hi All,

Not sure if anyone is riding gen2 carbons anymore but thought i'd post this problem here, see if anyone's had the same/a solution.

Board & remote fully charged, riding along not a problem then board cuts out/turns off. Turning the board back on, turns off again.. repeat. After a few minutes turned back on, paired & rode off with no problem?

I've opened the battery casing up & checked all wires & the 30A fuse. A few people on facebook mentioned it could be a problem with the BMS?

 

my cousin has the issue with the remote disconnecting on the gen2

 

I had my remote disconnect on my bamboo (this is a different issue). Turns out there's a proximity setting. if the remote is more than ~1.5m away from the board, it will disconnect.

So if you're tall, flying along, get say a speed wobble and raise your arm in the air to balance, you'll exceed 1.5m. Evolve have a button sequence on the remote that can disable this.

 

Did you ever get a resolution to this problem? I just started having it also.

 

Funny you should post Roger as I (think) I've fixed it today. So I went through all sorts and emailed Nick from Evolve a lot.

I tried:

- hot glue gun dot on all the connections internally to check nothing was coming loose,
- moved the heat sensor off the battery to check it wasnt overheating (or faulty),
- checked all balance wire readings on BMS underside under full throttle (all cells were good),

Did a heap of test runs with 'fast mode' full throttle, normal mode, light riding etc to try and pin-point th problem, was very inconsistent to replicate, but seemed to be about 10km of riding. Nick from Evolve eventually agreed to send out a new bms board for me to solder in. Did that today, now my charger light either won't go 'red' while it's charging or isn't charging... but the board is riding fine now (so far)..

 

Yea my problem started today about 3 miles into a ride when the board shut off, I turned it back on paired and went about 20 feet and it lost connection but didn't turn off. Then kept turning off I stopped waited 15 min turned back on and it went maybe 50 feet before turning off again. It seems like it will run while holding the board but if riding it shuts off.

 

Sounds like when it's under load/stress (riding) it shuts down.. Check the fuse isn't blown between the battery and EMC? Might be a problem with the BMS, the max/average amps being let through.

Same thing happened to mine today.... took apart bms fried. Can I source a replacement BMS from evolve?

 

I contacted Evolve Australia, Nick there is very helpful but I think they're under instruction to *not* send out replacement BMS. took me a couple of months of back and forth trouble-shooting before they'd send one out, was about $40. Turns out the one they sent was also faulty, they sent another, I soldered it in, my carbon gen 2 has been perfect since.

As it's a gen2, they might be a bit more relaxed about sending parts out.

 

Ev USA contacted me this week, so I'm sending my board in to Ev USA for service. They will install a new BMS, bal check the battery, and ride test to check peformance.

Also found a local source for ev spares.... a guy in San Antonio had a spare BMS.... so I'll have that in the parts bin for future.

I suspect my bms burned out from my attempt to ride off road on a single track gravel trail, and then on a loose gravel walking path...... suspect the age of the board + my 220lbs + the road sfc put too much load on the bms. I believe this bms control charge volt/amps to each cell..... AND controls discharge volt/amp to each cell......
